LED MR16 lamps give Long Lasting and Bright Lighting

You must have hosted many events in your hotel, store, or home. These parties or events start in the evening and usually run late into the night, which means you need quality lighting to keep your guests happy!

LED MR16 lamps

LED MR16 lamps

When it comes to lighting, look for lighting which provides the ambience you need with sufficient lumens output to illuminate the entire area. People often turn to using standard halogen lamps, thinking that they provide the brightest illumination. Technically, they do deliver a decent amount of light, however, they also emit a tremendous amount of heat at the same time, thus wasting a lot of energy and limiting their lifespan to 1000-2000hrs.

What if you had an alternative, where you could avoid the use of these wasteful lamps altogether? Well, now you can with the introduction of LED MR16 lamps which provide you with the brightest quality of light without the problem of getting overheated. These lamps are especially designed to act a retrofit replacement for 20W to 50W halogens. They also use electricity in a smarter way, thus helping you to curb your energy costs. And since they give you energy savings of around 80% over a standard halogen lamp, they actually end up paying for themselves in a few months.

Novel Energy Lighting offers you only the best quality of LED MR16 lamps from some of the most trusted manufacturers in the lighting industry like Philips, Megaman, Heathfield, Verbatim, and Emprex. The Philips LED lamps come in different wattages ranging from 4W=20W equivalent, 5.5W=35W equivalent, 7W=35W equivalent, and 6W/10W=50W equivalent to the common halogen lamp. The MasterLED range of Philips lamps come dimmable as standard, and come with a 5yr warranty. The Corepro range of LED MR16 lamps are excellent value for money, and are not dimmable, and come with a 2yr warranty. So this makes them ideal for usage in those places where dimming of the lamps is not required.

The Heathfield LED MR16 COB, available from Novel Energy Lighting, stands out from the rest of the LED MR16 lamps, as they offer you a 90% savings on your energy bills over a 50W halogen lamp. What’s more, these lamps have an average lifespan of 50,000 hours even if used constantly. They also have low heat emissions because of its special aluminum alloy shell, which facilitates effective dissipation of heat. Moreover, the Heathfield LED lamps have a 90 Deg beam angle, which allows more effective dispersion of light. They also come with a 5 year warranty period, which will give you peace of mind when you purchase them.

Improve the quality of your lighting with LED Panels

Do you feel that the lighting in your home or office area is dull on most occasions? Are you still facing this problem after you have changed the light bulbs and put in new ones? Then the problem is not with the light bulbs but with the dispersion of light. In many homes and offices, lighting is installed in the wrong locations in a room, thus restricting the dispersion of light to only one particular area, while other parts of the room receive less light. You can try and install more lighting in other areas of a room to increase the illumination, but this will only increase you energy bills and will not necessarily improve your lighting situation. In addition, the maintenance and replacement of these bulbs will further increase your expenditure.

led-panels

A more sensible solution is to install LED Panels on the ceiling to increase the illumination. If you have a big office, then these panels will make sure that light reaches each and every part of the room. And since LED Light Panels give out the brightest quality of light, you may find that you can delamp (reduce the number of lighting fittings) whilst retaining the same desired light levels. The 600mmx600mm shape is most popular, and replaces standard 2ft T8 Fluorescent quad grid fittings. The LED version is brighter than a fluorescent quad, and ensures that light reaches every corner of the office or room. Additionally, LED Ceiling Panels are made using the latest lighting technology and thus last longer than other forms of lighting like halogen or fluorescent lamps. Even if kept on for around 6 hours or more, these light panels will not get overheated or use excess electricity.

The semiconductor technology used in the manufacture of these light panels means that electricity is used efficiently without wastage, thus giving you an energy savings of over 50%. The Philips Coreline LED Panel supplied by Novel Energy Lighting will give you high quality, high output  light even if used constantly, for more than 50,000+ hours. Thus, these light panels are very ideal for corporate offices or exhibition centers with huge ceilings, which are on continuously and require lighting for longer time. And if your office already has standard tube fittings installed, then the process of installing LED Panels will be easy, as you can simply remove the existing fluorescent ones and fit LED Ceiling Panels instead. Ceiling panels come as standard as recess mount, but can also be surface mounted or suspension mounted to suit.

Novel Energy Lighting supplies a range of high quality LED panels from trusted manufacturers like Philips, Megaman, Heathfield, Thorn, and MEGE LED. Standard 600x600mm, 1200x600mm, and 1200x300mm panels are available in various colour temperatures from warm white to pure white. Most come with warranties of 3years to 5years. Dimmable drivers are also available for 0-10VDC dimming control. We also offer round ceiling panels to replace CFL downlights

LED Downlights for a Desired Ambience

LED Downlights add to the décor of your space. Along with creating an elegant ambience, LED lighting will downsize your electricity bill and maintenance costs. These energy efficient lights use about 80% less electricity than halogen downlights that frequently fail and have a high operational cost. Downlights are used for decorative purposes or functional lighting requirements, and can create a soothing ambience when dimmed.

led-downlights

Novel Energy Lighting supplies downlights from various quality manufacturers including Philips, Megaman, Heathfield, and Ansell Lighting. Novel Energy Lighting offers fixed, tilt and shower fire rated recessed downlights. Other alternates are available such as microwave PIR lights, and daylight sensors, and fittings that are ready for installing LED GU10 or MR16 lamps. Fire rated recessed downlights reduce the risk of fire spreading to other floors. IP40 and above rated downlights are compatible with wet environments, and can be used in bathrooms, kitchens or outdoors.

LED Downlights make the perfect replacement for 50W Halogen bulbs. They can also be used to replace 2 x 18W or 2 x 26W CFL downlights. Being of low wattage, these fittings can be used as ceiling lights or shelf lights.. These sleek recess lights fit flush with ceilings, do not occupy much space and are easy to install. LED lights are designed to last for 50,000 hours, thus reducing maintenance labour and relamping costs. Unlike fluorescent bulbs, LEDs do not contain toxic mercury or lead, making them environmental-friendly. As a result, the hazards associated with disposal are eliminated. This downsizes your maintenance costs, saving your money. Intelligent controls can be installed to save further energy, by switching lights off when ambient light levels are sufficient, or PIRs to detect when rooms are no longer occupied. Specialist controls can change LED colour temperature, dimming levels, and individual downlights can be uniquely addressable through interfaces like DALI and DMX to program exact lighting schedules.

Novel Energy Lighting can assist with your project by providing light plan and lighting design services as required. Please contact us to discuss your project and lux level requirements. LEDs are the perfect solution to help you achieve the right light levels, and deliver a uniform appearance and light dispersal.

In large offices or hotels, energy savings from LED Downlights with smart controls can make a big difference to lighting operational costs, and thus make a drastic difference in your energy bills.

LED Magazine reports that generally, most people think of solar power as a renewable green energy source and in some cases a way to save money relative to gird power, but increasingly the total cost of ownership of solar guides deployment decisions in outdoor lighting applications. Premiere Homes LLC (PHL), based in Richmond, VA, tapped Sol Inc. to install solar-powered LED street lights based primarily on lower upfront installation costs and secondarily on the long-term energy savings.

Indeed, in new construction, the cost of connecting outdoor solid-state lighting (SSL) to the AC grid can be significant. We covered a number of examples including LED trail lighting in Massachusetts and street lighting in Abu Dhabi in a feature article on presentations made at the February Strategies in Light conference.

Looking back, solar has not been the best match for street lighting because of the high light levels required for safety and the long operating hours. Solar panels, with efficiency just over 10%, couldn’t power legacy light sources without excessively large panels and expensive batteries. The efficiency of LED sources and improving battery technology, however, has made solar a viable option — especially in new construction projects where the cost of connecting to the grid is an issue.

Just such a situation arose at the PHL Randolph West community of 70 new single-family homes. “As we were developing the infrastructure for Randolph West, it soon became clear that grid-tied street lighting would be much less efficient and would add significant time to the project,” said Sean Bowers, chief operating officer at PHL. “Once we began to value-engineer possible options, we quickly identified Sol’s commercial solar outdoor lighting as the ideal solution.”

Indeed, the Richmond builder avoided the cost of trenching, wire installation, and electrical infrastructure connections that are commonplace in roadway lighting projects. Meanwhile, the city suffered lesser impacts to traffic and parking in the neighborhood, along with less noise. In the end both the builder and the city benefited from the solar choice and the city ended up with a notable green-energy success story.

“As demonstrated by the Randolph West project, solar-powered outdoor street lighting brings significant value to our community and helps us meet our sustainability, social, and economic goals,” said Christopher Beschler, chief administrative officer of operations for Richmond. “For this project, solar lighting was far more effective than traditional grid-tied street lighting, enabling us to provide our residents with visible proof of our city’s commitment to sustainability.”

The solar option is still a new one to most specifiers working on street-light projects where the lights must illuminate reliably. Solar is regularly used in area lighting projects that have a slightly lesser requirement in terms of the lights working all night every night. But the combination of better power electronics, more-efficient panels, LED sources, and battery technology are changing the landscape.

“There is no doubt that commercial solar outdoor lighting is now a cost-effective and high-quality alternative to traditional grid-tied outdoor lighting,” said Dibs Tailor, CEO of Sol. “As demonstrated by the public acclaim garnered by the Randolph West project, our commercial solar outdoor lighting systems provide significant economic benefits to budget-constrained municipal governments, while also contributing to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions that mitigate the negative effects of global warming.”

Novel Energy Lighting supplies a wide range of cost-effective LED lamps and fixtures. These are cost-effective and deliver paybacks of less than 1 year, while lasting over 10 years. We provide full LED range at competitive prices. Moreover, these lights offer lifetime cost benefits with up to 90% energy savings and up to 50,000 hours of operational lighting. Taiwan sets minimum efficacy for LED lighting

Lighting magazine reports that LED lighting in Taiwan must have a minimum efficacy of 70lm/W, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has announced. The new legislation requires all indoor warm-white LED lamps to have a minimum efficacy of 70 lm/W, while cool-white LEDs must be more efficient, reaching a minimum of 75 lm/W.

led-lightings

The Global Lighting Association (GLA) welcomed the move, saying that minimum effiacy requirements should be set at such a level that good-quality products are widely available and at an affordable price. “From the GLA’s position,” explained GLA representative Michael Ng, “we globally support one minimum level of performance for lighting products, just like what is announced by Taiwan’s MOEA Bureau of Energy. This is very different from just an energy labelling scheme. In general this serves the purposes of ensuring safe and quality products for the consumers, maintaining interoperability and competition on performance.”

Ng, who is also the director of international affairs for the Taiwan Lighting Fixture Export Association, added: “There are adequate surveillance and penalties in place to ensure that the vendors are truthful and the standards used are internationally harmonised.”

“It’s an interesting turn of events,” commented Iain Mcrae, head of global lighting applications at Thorn Lighting and past SLL president when Lighting invited him to comment on Taiwan’s new standard. “The move is clearly designed to discourage people using high colour temperature, or perhaps to encourage retailers or manufacturers to favour warmer light by making it easier to comply.”

But he isn’t sure if the move is going to have a knock-on effect: “Whether it will catch on on a global scale is a difficult one. We see general disquiet over the use of high CCT in the outdoors in many countries. Generally it’s not liked, but that may be a more historic thing. Previously such cold colours were simply not available. In some countries, South Africa, for example, there is generally a wider acceptance of colder colours, less so in Europe.”

Lighting in Taiwan accounted for 10.9 per cent of the country’s total power consumption in 2013, according to MOEA’s Bureau of Energy (BOE). Residential lighting accounted for 40 per cent of the total lighting power consumption.

Novel Energy Lighting supplies a wide range of cost-effective LED lighting products. These are cost-effective and deliver paybacks of less than 1 year, while lasting over 10 years. We provide full LED range at competitive prices. Most of our LED lights have up to 5 years warranty and 30 days satisfaction guaranteed. The tipping point for LED street-lighting?

Lux Magazine reports that The Green Investment Bank wants Britain’s streetlights to be 100 per cent LED by 2020 – and it’s putting its money where its mouth is-

Two hundred million pounds. That’s how much the Green Investment Bank reckons the UK could save every year by switching all its streetlights to LED.

led

In terms of carbon emissions, the impact of a nationwide LED switchover would be like taking 330,000 cars off the roads. And it would pretty much wipe out the need for the London Array offshore wind farm. So why hasn’t it happened yet?

The main reason is, predictably, money. The capital that councils need to kick off a streetlight upgrade is a major obstacle.

That’s where the Green Investment Bank comes in. Set up 18 months ago, the government-owned GIB has £3.8 billion of its own capital to play with, and is helping to attract billions more in private investment to support projects. So far it has committed a total of £1.3 billion to 27 projects covering energy efficiency as well as waste, bioenergy and wind power, with private money increasing the figure to £4.6 billion.

Now the GIB has set its sights on the UK’s seven million streetlights – many of which are over 40 years old. Its new Green Loan service aims to remove the upfront capital cost of an LED upgrade, with councils repaying the money from the savings they make on their electricity bills.

‘Although the technology is proven and the savings are fairly well understood, you need capital to do this,’ said Gregor Paterson-Jones, in charge of energy efficiency at the GIB. ‘When we’ve been out talking to people, they’ve said, we understand this, we’d like to do it, but we just don’t have the budget.

‘Over the past five years we have data to prove that energy savings can be met, and manufacturers are able to give warranties for a long period of time for the performance of those lights. So the complex structures where you transfer risk are not necessarily required, which keeps the cost of financing down.’

As for who supplies the lights and the products that are used, the GIB will leave that up to each local authority.

The GIB’s Green Loan isn’t the first scheme of its kind – the Carbon Trust and the Green Deal have offered similar schemes based on repaying loans from reduced bills, and a number of lighting suppliers have come up with financing packages too. But it’s the first one in the UK aimed particularly at street lighting, and the bank has access to huge amounts of money.

Currently less than 10 per cent of Britain’s streetlights are LED – but there’s no reason we can’t aim to make that 100 per cent by 2020, Paterson-Jones says.

Local authority street lighting managers were recently invited to join MPs at a meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Lighting Group, to hear about what the bank has to offer.

The first council to benefit from GIB funding for streetlights is Glasgow, which is about to embark on the second phase of a major upgrade as part of its Future Cities programme.

One thousand of Glasgow’s streetlights were upgraded to LED in a pilot project in 2012, and the next phase of the project will target 10,000 more. Over 18 years, the city believes it will make a net saving of more than £8 million from the upgrade.

Brian Devlin, who is in charge of environmental services at Glasgow City Council, said he was ‘delighted’ to be the first local authority to get Green Investment Bank backing. ‘If I’m asked to make a saving, I want to make a saving around supply chain and energy rather than going and reducing schools, social work, front-line service,’ he said.

Joan Walley MP, who co-chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Lighting Group, praised the Glasgow project and called the GIB’s Green Loan a ‘game-changer’. ‘We want to make sure as many local councils as possible can do all they can to access that funding, because when trying to improve street lighting, it always, always, always comes down to finance.’

John Jeffrey of Cheshire West and Chester Council agreed: ‘Finance is the number one obstacle. When your revenue pot shrinks, that makes it more difficult to maintain your borrowing limits and street lighting is not seen as a priority for investment. The Green Investment Bank might unlock that door,’ he said.

Novel Energy Lighting is the first choice in LED products. We offer top quality LED lamps, bulbs, and downlights with affordable prices. Most of our LED products come with a five year warranty and 30 day satisfaction guarantee. These lamps and bulbs have a longer lifespan up to 50,000 hours rated lifetime as compared to traditional lamps and bulbs. Save up to 90% energy with our products. LUX MAGAZINE: RETAIL LIGHTING GUIDE

All about the

IMAGE

Retail lighting isn’t just about meeting standards and keeping costs down – it’s about reinforcing your brand image.

Retail is one area where you can’t afford to get lighting wrong. Done well, it can boost sales, set the right tone and even save the retailer some cash. Done badly, it can waste money, scare away customers and create an uncomfortable environment. Shop owners need to consider the top line when it comes to installing a new lighting system, not just the bottom.

But it’s easier said than done. Retail lighting designers have a lot of things to think through and balance with each other.

It’s pretty well established that investing in a new interior design will impact sales. So how do you make lighting help? At the most basic level, it’s about ensuring merchandise is lit. ‘When you step up your lighting design, you create points of interest within the retail space,’ says James Bedell of Stan Deutsche Associates in New York. You want your features to pop against the background.’ This is done through contrast and good colour rendering.

Contrast is a powerful tool in a retail setting. It draws attention to where you want it, be it along a certain path or toward a certain product; it sets a mood or ambience when combined with colour temperature. One retailer that really rolls with this idea is

Abercrombie & Fitch. The store uses high contrast to link back to its young and sexy branding. All A&F stores are lit in the same way, keeping the branding consistent.

Mel Stears, director at Candra Lighting, says ‘your gut instinct would say no’ to Hollister’s approach, ‘but it does work’. She says it ‘gives the brand that look and that feel. It’s not just about how much light is on a product. It’s who your customer is.’

Light and brands

When it comes to branding, the fixtures, the levels, the contrast, all work towards the brand image. If you want to be seen as a classy boutique, but you’ve got cheap lighting, you’ll be sending the wrong signal; and if you’re going for the cheap and cheerful look, you don’t want lighting to scream excess. Good branding will gain the confidence and loyalty of a strong customer base. It allows shoppers to feel as though they know a brand or retailer, to be able to identify one over the other. A consistent brand image communicates messages to the customer about values and quality. ‘Lighting becomes a critical asset as its role becomes strategic,’ explains Xicato’s Steve Landau. ‘Lighting draws attention and can signal the importance of an area or display. It can establish an emotional perspective. With good design and the right light, retailers can shape and drive a shopper’s path through a store.’ ‘Lighting is an incredibly powerful influence on human behaviour,’ agrees Nualight’s vice president of retail lighting, Siobhan O’Dwyer. ‘We are quite literally programmed to respond to light,’ she says. Your gut instinct would say no to to Hollister’s approach. But it does work” Mel Stears, Candra Lighting In the Middle East, hypermarket chain Nesto is upgrading its lighting to impact the customer experience. Ovais Hashmi, Nesto senior project architect, says: ‘The most important thing is lighting’s impact on the space it’s used in.’ Nesto saw huge improvements visually and in terms of cost when it introduced LED high bays. Hashimi says: ‘Light has a tremendous effect, not only in sales but in overall store growth and on the people working within. It determines the way a customer thinks and interprets the space around them and the way they move forward and explore products.’ Lighting allows retailers to direct the customer towards certain products, or along paticular paths. Good lighting puts you in control of the shopping experience, and maximises your success rate. Hashmi reckons lighting ‘entices shoppers to consider items that they would not necessarily have purchased’. Former retail fashion buyer Yvonne van den Broek says she is all ‘too aware of how many factors influence customer buying decisions.’ Broek, now of Amsterdam-based View On Light, says: ‘To bring lighting to the forefront of retailers’ minds we need to design concepts targeting increased sales and ways of attracting and guiding shoppers,’ she says.

How not to do it

BAD CHANGING ROOMSOne downlight in the middle of the ceiling is all you sometimes get, and it doesn’t tend to be very flattering. Think carefully about vertical illuminance and colour rendering.
WRONG COLOUR TEMPERATUREThis is a particular problem with LEDs, which can sometimes be bluish in colour, especially if they’re cheap. The wrong colour temperature can wreck the atmosphere in a shop.
MISH-MASH OF COLOURSThe only thing worse than picking the wrong colour temperature is picking a bunch of different ones, or a mix of lamps with a pink or green tinge. A common mistake.
POOR UNIFORMITYLighting your star products brightly is all well and good, but what about those dark spots to either side, or below the shelves? Don’t forget uniformity.
DODGY COLOUR RENDERINGNot only will poor colour rendering not do justice to your produce, but if you’re in the fashion business your customers may find their new clothes aren’t the colour they thought.
